English 22.5h

The course has a strong focus on the practical needs of both short and long term visitors to the UK. It is ideal for anyone who wants to improve their communication skills.
You will attend for 22.5 hours each week including 20.75 hours classroom tuition. You can start any week (subject to availability) and study from one week to one year or more.

This course covers six levels from Beginner to Advanced and includes regular opportunities to progress through these levels. Although every student improves at a different pace, students typically spend 3~4 months in each level until Intermediate when progress takes longer, around 4~6 months.


General English & IELTS Preparation
This is a full-time course that combines the general skills needed to live and study in the UK with special exam preparation classes. Each week, you attend 22.5 hours (20.75 hours of classroom tuition). Morning classes focus on language skills, afternoon classes focus on exam skills. The teachers of this course typically hold IELTS Marker or Examiner status or have similar qualifications and experience appropriate to teach English for Academic Purposes and IELTS Preparation.
This class is becoming increasingly popular with students of all nationalities and is available for the same price as our General English course. This course is only open to students of an intermediate level or above and there are alternative classes you can attend until you reach this level.

Please note that the IELTS exam takes place at Glasgow University, which is an IELTS test
centre. The exam takes place once a month and you must apply for a place six-weeks in advance. The present test fee for the IELTS examination is £95 GBP.

Highlands Activity Programme
This programme is based in the rugged beauty of the Scottish Highlands. It combines English language tuition with the opportunity to enjoy challenging outdoor activities surrounded by breathtaking scenery.

English + Internship
Many students that come to the UK to study also want to gain experience of working within a British company. Glasgow School of English can offer you a two stage programme to help you achieve this goal:

  • Stage 1: Full-time English language course (min 4 weeks)
  • Stage 2: Internship at local organisation (min 2 weeks)

The short internship is an unpaid work placement at a local organisation where you will carry out duties according to your qualifications, prior work experience, and language ability (minimum requirement IELTS 5.0 or equivalent). The minimum period is two weeks but this may be extended depending on the company and your performance. This offers you the opportunity to develop the essential skills for working in an English speaking country: communication skills, people skills, time management, cultural understanding, etc. This is an excellent way to develop your English ability and improve your future career prospects at home or abroad.

Eating & Drinking
There are more than 1,000 restaurants catering for all tastes (and budgets!) from traditional Scottish cuisine to Far Eastern foods, such as Chinese and Thai restaurants. And there are literally thousands of bars and pubs in Glasgow offering something for everyone. From whisky to real ales to fantastic food often served from lunchtime to early evening.

Glasgow is one of the best cities in Europe for shopping.
